Making sure he's fit to survive

With a big sis like Sprout, Junebug has to learn fast; he has to get mobile!

To that end, this has been a very busy month for him.  The day before we left France (Aug 29), he pushed up onto all fours.  He was moving about then, but only backwards, not having figured out how to advance.

Our first day back in Egyt, he pushed up onto hands and toes. He can take wee "steps" like that, but prefers "the wave." He has mastered an inchworm or seal-flop type motion and gets about really well, following me around the house.

On September 24th, our first day at Anafora, he pushed himself into a sitting position. The 25th he pulled himself onto his feet. He's been practicing every day. Sprout walked at 1 year and 10 days; I think her bro will beat to that milestone by several months if he keeps this up.

In other milestone news, he cut his first tooth today.

He'll be 7 months old in two days.

He's a real mover. Not that much time has passed since Sprout was a wee one but I can't remember exactly when she started the same; still I think it was at least one month later for the pulling up.

What a gorgeous chubby baby. Look at those little toes! Aaaand I think that between him and Sprout you're going to be kept on your toes. :p

"going to be" is already outdated. :P

The first born always has it hardest. :-) I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Junebug is up and walking long before his first birthday. Gorgeous, happy baby!

From all the practicing he is doing, he is bound and determined to make it. :D I think keeping the Christmas tree safe this year is going to be fun. Sprout's first Christmas was easy since she was only 2 months old and her second was in Albania where we had a "wall tree." (http://mnfaure.livejournal.com/278861.html) By time we arrived in Cairo and had a real tree, she was old enough to leave it alone. :P

Yes, he is a healthy boy who is already showing lots of personality.

He wants to get where the action is, and the action is with Sprout!

(My subsequent children all walked sooner than my first, so I really think maybe the presence of siblings has something to do with it.)

Lots and lots and lots of action. :P

I also noticed with my children, that some things children learned faster from other children (especially from their siblings) than from adults.

Yes, someone their own size boosts infants more, I think. Even though Sprout is not always gentle with Junebug, he lights up whenever she comes around.

Maybe children are better teachers--or maybe, in any case, it's easier to learn some things from fellow children.

I mostly understood it that for a small child an adult might seem like a mighty wizard, whose actions cannot be copied by a mere child.

But seeing another child (even an older one) doing something makes the skill seem more approachable, something that CAN be learned by anyone.

I love your explanation--I especially love the parent as a mighty wizard, too awesome to imitate :-)
