Donkeys, Day 6

Very tired. Long day.

Not much commentary on this one. I know I need more practice with watercolors, but practice is what I'll get if I do a whole book of illustrations with them. :P

Obviously this guy is a joker!

I have to admit that I'm really starting to look forward to seeing each day's donkey. Each one is different and surprising in a new way.

Hehe. I love his goofy face. :P

I was wondering today whether or not I'll be able to keep this up (and be fresh) for 30 days. I think I can...

This is brilliant! This is just the picture I've been waiting for--at least in terms of the story :D

*nods* I had a lot of fun doing it, imagining the scene. I would like to do more pictures that actually speak to the story, but as I explained to Julien today, these little illustrations are already taking so much time (I'm so slow! *wails*) that I'm afraid it will take me all day if I do something more story related,. And possibly frustrate and discourage me from continuing.

You might see more donkeys with mittens on their ears, though. :D Easy enough to execute. :P

I understand about time! It's so frustrating when even the thing you want to do to relax ends up taking a stress-inducing amount of time. (Regarding the mittens, I wanted to say that I love how with just a few strokes, you suggest the knit weave.)

Me, everything is taking me too long, and these days I hate everything I do--everything I touch seems to turn to mud. I feel as if, logically speaking, that shouldn't be possible; it must be just my mood speaking, but right now I'm wearing mud-tinted glasses, for sure -_-

Ugh. I'm having a problem with LJ. I'm not getting notifications for all these messages. :-<

I just wanted to say how very deeply I understand this phase you are going through--because it is just a phase, a phase of mood, as you say--and I know how gutting it is to create and then feel like all you've accomplished is smearing a bit of muck around.

I go through these rollercoaster up and downs of creative self-judgement, from the peaks of adequacy to the deepest, muddiest dips that are the...Swamp of Despair (thank you The Neverending Story for that term).

I've been so well-intentioned about getting chapter 2 to you, but muddy is pretty much the way the writing feels these days. :P

I think LJ just randomly does that to swaths of the LJ population. I'm getting comments today, but there are other days when I happen to glance at an entry I've put up and whoa! There are new comments, and I had no idea.

I do hope it's just a phase, because as it is, it's just very hard to do *anything*, you know? That poem was the whole creative output of that day. I've made and abandoned several short-story starts. I think I just have to grit my teeth and keep plowing through something.

Do not talk yourself out of sending chapter 2 to me, though. The feeling that it's all muck is a not-true feeling. Or, what I mean is, sure, you feel that way, but that's not at all how your story is for outside readers. So even if you have misgivings, keep on working on it, and one day, take the plunge and send it.

Oh, and I wanted to bring up again the poem you posted. I love it so much, I would like to draw something from it. That is love when my brain is so full of other stuff it wants to do. So, no, you are not making mud, my friend!

Please feel free to! I might draw a bestiary image--but I might not; I might get too busy with blah-blah daily stuff. So if you get a chance and feel like it, please go for it!

OMG, I love it!

J'aime beaucoup
Enfin une représentation liée à l'histoire.
Un gros sourire sur mon visage!
J'aime particulièrement la lumière sur les moufles.

This is definitely a donkey I can imagine playing its role in my story; it has personality. :P
