Day one

 of art journaling.

I wish my handwriting was more legible, more elegant, but alas. Not this time around.  Next time I plan on watching the syntax a little more carefully, too. :P

day 1

I hope I get faster at this. Today waaaay exceeded 30 minutes. This is probably a rarity, though, because I won't always do a full page.

I like! Whimsical and sweet, and that blue material is gorgeous.

The blue material is from Soëlie's dress that I made. :)

Thank you. I had fun doing it, even if it did take forever with all the breaks to take care of baby.

Not only beautiful and creative and fun, but a real keepsake!

I really enjoy looking back on stuff I did years and years ago, the pleasant surprises as well as the stuff that seems a bit silly or rough, so I hope I can keep it up long enough for it to become a keepsake. :)

I am glad to see you have desided to put the art journal entries online, too!

Beautiful! And I love to see handwriting on (some) people.

Some - as even if it probably makes me a not-so-good archivist, I am not good at figuring out handwritings.

Also - there is a childhood fear. As both my parents and majority of my relatives have TINY handwriting, as a child I was sure that I would NEVER be able to do anything like that* myself.

But I knew being unable to write a cursive as an adult would be a shame and I hated feeling ashamed. So I hoped: "If I use REALLY tiny print letters, may-be people will not notice that I do not know how to write in cursive?!"

* I was kind of right - my own handwriting has remained childishly round and big

Ah, handwriting. I wish I could write like my mother and grandmother; they have such beautiful flowing script. I can do it for a word or two, and then the desire to go faster and just get the words down pulls my hand along and words get sloppy again.

I like your handwriting, though. It is clear and precise, another thing I'm not too good at. :P

Your anecdote about small writing reminds me of a girl I knew in first or second grade (I moved around so much it is hard to remember which). She wrote so tiny that you had to hold the paper close to your nose to read it. The teacher was always trying to get her to write bigger, but the girl never could. :)

Thank you. :) I don't know why, but seeing the gypsies at the market felt auspicious to me and suddenly I knew how I wanted to begin my journal.

And yes about the fish. I felt downright blessed. :D

This so inspired me that I finally created an account! I've been feeling a bit guilty for spying on you all the time ;)

Thank you for the inspiration. I don't know when or how, but I *will* start a regular journal one day soon. Your "lighten up" approach might lead me to a similar one that moves me past the barriers I create for my own creativity.

Congratulations on challenging yourself and creating yet more beauty.

Lu, is it you??? I'm so glad you created an account! It'll be so much easier to keep in touch. :)

And I hope you do create a journal. We tend to be our own worst critics, stopping the art before it can even become, so amen to the resolution to tear down those self-imposed barriers.

I did not know!
If I would have, I'd have tried a little harder to be entertaining. ;)
