Foundlings

This entry about record-keeping with swatches of cloth at a foundling hospital is particularly moving, even though it dates back more than two centuries. It tugs my heartstrings and stirs my imagination. I could tell a story about a Lucy Locket or a Benjamin Twirl.

Fascinating, touching, and so sad that so many died in infancy.

I know. I'd like to know the infant death rate for the time period to know if the hospital's mortality rate was uncommonly high or not.

Thank you for sharing this incredible story. Heartbreaking, yet full of hope and tenderness. I want to go open a Foundling Hospital right now!
